The Shreveport Downtown Development Authority (DDA) recently visited the city’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), a facility dedicated to enhancing public safety. The visit highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the DDA and the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) to address the concerns of businesses, residents, and visitors while ensuring Downtown Shreveport remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
The RTCC operates 24/7, utilizing advanced technology to monitor activity across the city in real time. With access to an extensive network of cameras, the center provides officers with critical information before they arrive on the scene, allowing for quick and informed responses. Earlier this year, the DDA contributed to these efforts by donating four cameras to SPD for the downtown area. These cameras have been integrated into the RTCC’s system, enhancing its ability to monitor key locations and deter criminal activity. Additionally, the RTCC can incorporate existing business security systems into its network, a step the DDA took earlier this year to further bolster safety measures downtown.
The visit provided the DDA with an opportunity to see firsthand how the RTCC’s operations are making a tangible difference in public safety. The staff’s dedication to leveraging technology to support law enforcement efforts left a lasting impression.
In addition to the RTCC visit, the DDA has been engaged in ongoing discussions with the SPD about their initiatives within the downtown area. From increased patrols to innovative safety programs, the SPD’s efforts are having a meaningful impact. These measures not only enhance safety but also foster a sense of trust and security that is essential for Downtown Shreveport’s continued growth.
The partnership between the DDA and SPD reflects a shared commitment to creating a thriving downtown environment where everyone feels safe. Whether you are operating a business, attending an event, enjoying a day out, or living downtown, these collaborative efforts ensure that safety remains a top priority.
We extend our thanks to Real Time Crime Center Manager Kevin Thomas, Lieutenant Jones, Lieutenant Bowman, and Corporal Dixon for graciously hosting us and providing an insightful tour of the facility.
